Build a Ladder
"Build a ladder" - I've heard this expression this February, when Martina from YT channel Simon and Martina (@eatyourkimchi) posted a video "An Open Talk About My Depression" (Go watch it to hear her story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUgi4bWudR4). In this video she talks how she's doing some things, sometimes very small, sometimes really big, that are like the steps in a ladder, helping her to get out of a dark pit of depression.
I like that metaphor and I try to remind myself of it from time to time, cause when I have worse days, I tend to focus on how far I'm from the "good place" and how long way it's there. Focusing on just one step, the next step, that changes something, can help us reach the better place, that is further from the dark pit.
In this sketch, I've painted, you can see only few first steps, cause we'll never have the whole ladder to simply just go up, but we have the ability to make steps one at the time and each step is important even if it takes us just a little further. One of these steps for me few years back was getting on the path of cartomancy, it was and still is a great help, also trying myself with artsy stuff helps a lot too (especially if I'm not comparing myself and, again, am focusing only on one step at the time and not on final goal). And sometimes we are being helped with making the steps, that's why I think it's so important to talk about mental issues, to de-taboo them, to help each other with building the ladders, it's not like others will build it for us, but can help in the process with good word or showing how they are building theirs. That's why I'm thankful for people like Martina, who, while having following, don't hide that things, but speak of them. I'm also thankful for living in those times of the Internet, there's a lot of shit flowing there, but without this web life would be a lot harder or even too hard.
